Quezon City - Eight Pharmacists from Pointwest Healthcare attended the Basic International Conference on Harmonisation - Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) Training-Workshop 2016, organized by the Philippine Clinical Research Professionals Inc. (PCRP), on July 21 at Quirino Memorial Medical Center, Quezon City.
The focus of the training-workshop was to enforce a tight guidelines on ethical aspects of clinical research and introduce the international quality standards that is provided by the ICH.
ICH is an organization that brings together the regulatory authorities and pharmaceutical industry to discuss scientific and technical aspects of drug registration, thereby reducing or obviating duplication of testing carried out during the research and development of new human medicines.
In an inquiry with one of the PCRP members, Erin Tiu said that the training is useful when venturing into a clinical research team.
“Should you want to pursue your career in pharmaceutical/hospital/clinical research organizations, this will be useful.”
The Basic GCP Training held in QMMC was primarily for doctors. This training-workshop would be helpful in conducting their study which is a requirement to finish their residency. They also accepted external trainees, so certification for the Pointwest Clinical Specialists was made possible.
“This will be useful, now that we have formed our core clinical research training team and eventually, we will start our new clinical research service”, Pointwest Clinical Specialist May Ann Barcena said and referring to a new service of Pointwest.
Majority of the attendees are the Hospital’s Residents, Nurses and Administrative Staff. Speakers in the said training were healthcare professionals from PCRP and QMMC.
